Linen

Linen

Linen

Linen comes mainly from Europe (France, Belgium, Netherlands). It is a renewable and sustainable resource available locally.

Its cultivation does not require any fertiliser or watering and can have a positive effect on the other cultivations as it structures soil and reduces some of the pressures from bio-aggressive agents.

The plant is transformed in thread using natural non-chemical processes (retting and scutching).

Linen and composite materials

Linen fibre is long and resistant.

It can be used to reinforce bio-sourced, innovative eco-designed composite materials.

Linen fibres have properties that position them right next to carbon and glass, i.e. they have low density, they are rigid, resistant to breaking and torsion, and they can absorb vibrations.

Several composite materials reinforced with linen fibres are used in various industrial sectors, namely sports and leisure. Linen composites can also be used every day in house design and development.
